USNI backs a focused set of priority campaigns, where a win for nature builds momentum across states and issues. Our role depends on what each campaign needs. Sometimes we’re the investor, sometimes the campaign strategist or communications team in the room, and sometimes a partner backing the groups leading on the ground. The standard stays the same: bipartisan, built to win, designed to last.

Federal

Stopping the public lands sell-off (2025)

A provision from Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) in the reconciliation bill would have forced the sale of millions of acres of BLM and Forest Service land. USNI-backed campaigns reframed the fight from “federal overreach” to protecting what belongs to all Americans. Media, podcasts, digital ads, and influencers built bipartisan opposition until the provision was pulled.


Idaho

A resolution to keep Idaho’s federal lands public  (2026)

The Idaho Legislature passed Senate Joint Memorial 111, a formal statement to federal leaders to support retaining Idaho’s public lands. USNI supported the Idaho Wildlife Federation and Trout Unlimited in organizing sportsmen to show broad support for keeping public lands in public hands. 


Wyoming

Legislature backs public lands, access, and local involvement (2026)

State Sen. Eric Barlow (R-WY) and 38 cosponsors advanced SJ0009, affirming Wyoming’s commitment to keeping public lands public and accessible, maintaining multiple-use management, and ensuring state, local, and community voices are part of federal land-management decisions. The resolution passed 27–4 in the Senate and 54–7 in the House and was signed by Gov. Mark Gordon (R-WY). USNI supported the Wyoming Wildlife Federation in building broad support for the resolution through public education, strategic communications, and grassroots engagement.

Texas

$20 billion for water (2025)

Texas voters passed Proposition 4 with more than 70% of the vote. It dedicates up to $1 billion a year to the Texas Water Fund for 20 years – $20 billion for water supply and infrastructure. USNI helped make water security a shared Texas priority through research-driven messaging and aligned stakeholders.


Alabama

The state’s first Chief Resilience Officer (2026)

Championed by State Rep. Chip Brown (R), State Sen. Steve Livingston (R), and Gov. Kay Ivey (R), the Alabama Legislature unanimously passed SB 137 to create Alabama’s first Chief Resilience Officer inside the Department of Insurance, plus a cross-agency resilience council, a statewide resilience plan, and a funding stream for the work. USNI supported rapid response efforts by our national and local resilience advocacy partners to educate members about the policies, address misconceptions, and secure support. USNI also supported efforts to leverage this victory to other states.


Missouri

Parks, water, and working lands renewed for a decade (2026)

More than 80% of Missouri voters renewed the Parks, Soils and Water sales tax. It raises about $70 million a year, split between state parks and farmer-led soil and water conservation, and funds roughly three-quarters of the state parks budget. USNI’s general support for the Conservation Federation of Missouri’s advocacy on water quality and working lands programs provided a strong base of support for the win. 


Florida

Resilience funding grows as the budget shrinks (2026)

In one of the most challenging state budget years in recent memory, the Florida Legislature funded the Resilient Florida program at $160 million while many other conservation and environmental programs were slashed. That's a $10 million increase from 2025 levels and triple what the Florida Senate initially proposed. USNI supported AFC's rapid response efforts to ramp up budget education and advocacy during a tense budget negotiating window, making the case to a bipartisan group of lawmakers through local businesses and elected officials.
